Plum baby royal approval

I was very kindly sent a few of the new Plum baby ‘Little Foodies’ toddler meals by their PR team.  I am pretty selective about what ‘PR’ type things I do on Curls & Coffee because I’m an opinionated mare {and totally aware that my little corner on the interweb isn’t anything special, it’s pretty much a place entirely dedicated to ‘me me me’-itus}.  But honestly Plum baby have been my brand of choice for shop bought baby food.  It seems we are in good company too from the picture above!  Loved reading that the farm which Prince Charles and Camilla was visiting is where the majority of the produce Plum baby uses, comes from.  William and I aren’t huge fans of their snacks as I think they are a little bland but their 10 month+ tubs have been a huge hit from the get go!!  So I was pretty excited to try out the toddler meals as I imagined they would be the same but a bit more grown-up texture wise.

Firstly, lets talk packaging and price.  I really like the fact it comes in a slightly bowled plate container which means that William could easily feed himself from it without me needing to use another plate making them perfect for when we are out and about or the post-nursery rush to complete dinner, bath and bed before either one of us go into meltdown.  These are RRP £2.25 but they have a good shelf life and there are regular summaries of which shops have them on a deal posted on the Plum baby facebook page so I rarely pay full price!  Don’t all dash there at once but at the moment Ocado has them for £1.50.

Now for the important bit, the taste test.  Obviously I had to make sure that William was fully briefed about the product.  He gave me a bit of a talking to about how we really likes the existing pots and why did I have to changes things up when he was happy with the way things were.  But fortunately he greed to try them.  Now this is where I should lie, if I was a good PR girl* then I’d tell you that William devoured them, they are his new favourites and I don’t buy anything else.  But I’d be lying.  The truth is actually quite similar but it doesn’t sound it.  However, I am a brutally honest person and so I hope you’ll appreciate we not prettifying the situation.

William ate at least half of each flavour we tried through that week.  He didn’t devour them, because he was going through a phase where getting him to eat in the evening was a bit of a mission and I personally don’t believe in the ‘open wide while I make a poor attempt at doing a plane impression’ dance.  This is real life, I have had to try to crop my questionable quality iPhone photos in such a way as to distract your eye from the washing basket William had pushed into the dining room without me noticing.  And that particular week there were several days, in a row, where the most he would eat was a bowl of rice krispies or an extra large bottle of milk, no joke!

The fact he ate any was pretty miraclous and a testimont to the quality of the pots.

Plum baby little foodies taste test

From Mark and I’s perspective I thought they weren’t as flavoursome as the 10 month+ pots but then I tend to think how we taste food is wildly different to our little ones so I’m not sure our opinion really counts!  With all our coming and going at the moment I’ve just put in an order with Ocado for a few of these in each flavour to stash at our parent’s houses so we can relax knowing there are a few dinners covered which I know he will eat and don’t require refridgorating or cooking for an hour.

As the summer holiday’s approach and you start to plan for the joy of days out and long roadtrips I highly recommend stashing a couple of these for whilst out and about.  My personal favourite is still the lamb mousakka from the 10 month+ range though, I am secretly quite pleased on the odd occasion William wants to share his as it’s delicious!

*this is based on my own assumptions and not a reflection on any pressure or influence from the lovely team behind Plum baby.
